Georgia Expands Medical Marijuana Program: Patients Can Now Purchase Cannabis Flower, Vapes & Gummies

ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia’s medical marijuana program has officially expanded, giving qualified patients more options than ever before.

Effective today, registered medical cannabis patients in Georgia can legally purchase marijuana flower (buds) for vaporization, THC vape products, and THC-infused gummies, marking one of the biggest changes to the state’s medical cannabis program since it was first established.

The expansion is expected to make medical cannabis more accessible and provide patients with additional methods for managing a variety of qualifying medical conditions.

What’s Changing?

Previously, Georgia’s medical marijuana program primarily allowed registered patients to purchase low-THC cannabis oil. Under the updated rules, eligible cardholders can now access additional products, including:

• Cannabis flower (buds) intended for vaporization only
• THC vape cartridges and disposable vape devices
• THC-infused gummies
• Other approved low-THC cannabis products available through licensed dispensaries

Smoking cannabis remains illegal under Georgia law. The newly approved flower products are intended specifically for use with dry-herb vaporizers.

Who Qualifies?

To purchase medical cannabis in Georgia, patients must have a valid Georgia Low THC Oil Registry Card and be diagnosed with one of the state’s approved qualifying medical conditions.

These conditions include, but are not limited to:

• Cancer
• Parkinson’s disease
• Multiple sclerosis
• Seizure disorders and epilepsy
• Crohn’s disease
• PTSD
• ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
• Autism (in certain cases)
• End-stage cancer and other qualifying illnesses

Patients should consult with a licensed physician to determine eligibility.

A Step Forward for Patients

Supporters of the expanded program say the additional product choices will allow patients to select the consumption method that best fits their medical needs and lifestyles.

Many patients prefer vaporization because it provides faster relief than edible products, while others may find gummies more convenient due to their discreet use and measured dosing.

Advocates also argue that expanding legal access may reduce reliance on unregulated products purchased outside of licensed dispensaries.

What This Doesn’t Mean

Although the program has expanded, recreational marijuana remains illegal in Georgia.

Only registered patients with a valid medical cannabis card can legally purchase these products from state-licensed dispensaries. Possession or use outside the guidelines established by Georgia law can still result in criminal penalties.
